NEWS FLASH!!!

I've got a new building that is cute as pie! Barntique owners have granted my request and added an adorable little shed to the front of my wonderful barn.
The shed has a front porch with Dutch doors, two front windows, a side entrance and inside there is a loft with an attached ladder! Just a terrific playhouse for kids and I am a big kid!
I have made it into a "Girly Girl's Room!" Sorry, guys! The hardware and tools are in the big building. Please see my photos for shots of the new shed and a lot of my other merchandise including the toys, the antiques, the giftware, the WW II training wing suspended from the rafters, and lots more!
Come on down and start your holiday shopping early!

Yucky-pooh-pooh!

What happened to the weather on Sunday? Yucky-pooh-pooh! Auntie Q woke up to rain, not the pitter-patter of raindrops, but side-ways rain with wind blowing leaves and yard debris every which way. (I could have sworn I saw a cow blow by. And there was this lady on a bicycle…well, I was half asleep!) Any way, Abby was hiding under the covers and it just felt like a “coloring book kind of day,” as my mother used to say.) It just wasn’t a day to head to The Cottages in Moriches.
I hope I didn’t disappoint anyone. I will be there bright and early tomorrow, Monday 10/19/09.
There should be a special surprise set up on Wednesday 10/22…Come down and check it out!

I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaacck!

Auntie Q is back

Well, I am back! After a lovely three-day weekend with the girls in Montauk during Columbus Day weekend, I am relaxed and back at the shops! Even though this weekend is supposed to be rainy all through Monday, I am glad to be back in Moriches! It was tough for me to relax for at least the first 12 hours. Even my body gave me a hard time; my lower back ached after sitting still on the coach for an hour. I am definitely not used to that!
The shop is crowded with all sorts of goodies.
A child’s guitar, a Mickey Mouse bank and lunch box have been uncovered from the deep dark corners of the shop! A wonderful dollhouse has been sitting up in the loft and I am ready to let it go. Come check it out…remember, the holidays are coming, the holidays are coming! (Oh, speaking of Christmas, I also have an antique tree base that weighs more than 100 Abbys! Well, maybe 60 Abbys! It is a one of a kind item so come and get it!
We have to break the record and sell at least one Christmas item this year! (Yep, not one sold last year!  )
Ladies’ leather gloves are back. I have found some beautiful vintage soft as “butta” kid gloves. Beautiful pins will look lovely on one’s jacket collar this time of year. I read that people will sooner comment on a pin than a necklace so you will be the center of attention! I have plenty of those including a lovely Sarah Coventry “emerald” set of earrings, pin and ring. Oh so chic; they are clip on earring so you be just like those women on TV who have to take off that one earring to answer the phone. (I remember Erika Kane doing that and thinking that it was so classy!)
A great a collection of Cracker Jack charms, gumball prizes and some other “smalls” have come my way. They are just the cat’s pajamas!
If you are into Wade figurines, Auntie Q has found a love of them, too. A group of adorable creatures including a snail and some monkeys has joined the inventory.
Speaking of monkeys, you must check out the creature characters I have found. They are sort of super primitive little statues. Their faces crack me up!
You have to help me divest of some of the chairs and tables so I can make room for Abby and me during the colder months! Remember: BARNTIQUE IS OPEN ALL YEAR LONG!
Mention this ad and you’ll get 20% off your purchase of $20.00 or more and if it is a table or a chair I’ll go to 25% (excluding children’s furniture)!

OHHHS AND AHHHS

I am always amazed at the goodies out there. With a little digging and a sharp eye my “haunts” are always reliable; always ripe with goodies. So Wednesday is a pricing day and an “ohhh” “ahhh” day! My fellow BARNTIQUERS all spend their days off scouring the local shops and streets and various connections to bring in new items.

I have decided that I am NOT going to buy something that I have in the shop and haven’t sold. No point, don’t you agree? The only exception to that rule is if it is part of a set and I only have one. However, the other exceptions are if the new one is older than the old one, it is a different color, OR it is too cute to pass up! Generally, the only other rule is if I can afford it! I go out with a certain amount of money and when that is gone it is time to go home!

AUNTIE Q’S WILL BE CLOSED COLUMBUS DAY WEEKEND FOR A WELL-DESERVED GIRLS’ WEEKEND AWAY.

BARNTIQUE WILL BE OPEN! SAT., SUN. AND MON., 11-4

Collections at BARNTIQUE in Moriches

I spend all week getting ready for the weekend. I make sure everything is priced and displayed well. Usually I do my “search and rescue missions” during the week to find new items for the shop. I feel I have a “good eye” and look for treasures for the nooks and crannies of Auntie Q’s! Sometimes I even find stuff in the shop that I had forgotten about and make a special display for you to see them.

I was reading about Bernie Madoff’s houses and items up for auction.. It is possible to do a room-by-room tour of the NY Penthouse, the Florida house and the one in Montauk. The view from that house is stunning! There are beautiful items but the houses seem so cold and unlived-in. Someone commented on that fact and I agree. I always hope people find my home to be comfortable and homey. (Granted, there is a lot to look at, too!)

As I sit at my computer, I don’t think you would be surprised at the plethora of “stuff” I have on my desk! I strongly believe it is very important to surround yourself with the things you love. Your home should reflect your interests, hobbies and a part of yourself. A nice collection would help you to feel warm and happy in your home. (BTW, we at BARNTIQUE believe two of anything is a collection!) Group your collections together to show them off.
I collect many different things: miniatures, dolls, Boyds Bears (only nakked ones!), ladies’ vintage purse accessories, nested chickens and many other things, BUT my FAVORITE are my KEWPIES.
The Kewpies first appeared in 1909 as little comics in the Ladies’ Home Journal. Rose O’Neill was the author and illustrator and in 1912 composition Kewpies were made for sale. I have one from 1913 and many, many more. At several points in time, they were prizes in carnivals. There are a gazillion items on which my "kuties" appear: ashtrays, calendars, cups, pins, charms, children’s dishware and so much more.
When I sit down to check my mail, write, or play a game my kewpies are all around me and they make me smile!
So, the word for this weekend is collection! Come to BARNTIQUE and start or add to your collection.

Mid-September 2009

What a glorious weekend! The weather could not have been better, the parking lot was full and the crowds of people were terrific. I met so many new people and hopefully made some new friends who will come back to shop in Barntique again.
Abby is terrific and so well socialized that she dealt well with all the children and animals. Her littermate came for a visit, too. Check out the photo of the two of them! (He’s the one with the Mohawk!) One little girl was just so cute I asked the daddy if I could take a picture of her with Abby. They are both so adorable!
Of course, I hit a few sales on my way to the shop on Friday and found some new treasures. You’ll have to stop on down to see what’s new!
Saturday my Uncle Howard came to spend the day with me and he and Abby spent a lot of time walking around. He was a big help when it came to setting up and breaking down. An extra pair of hands is always helpful when I have to put everything away.
Alas, Abby has paws, not hands!
